Thank you for jumping to conclusions and stating a point in a way that was honest and not brimming with passive aggression at all.

I explained, either in this blog post or another, what the 25/10 rule was. I also explained that we were told that the animals are naturally curious and if, after we've stopped 10 feet from them, the penguins approach us we're allowed to let them do so. I did so.

It's good to see that you enjoyed yourself while breaking the 25/10 foot barrier. It's important that these animals are encouraged to interact with humans and that people should feel comfortable touching them, as you have displayed. In fact the relationship with people and wild animals can be mutually beneficial. Nothing bad can happen.

Stumbled on this while browsing old bookmarks. "Oh, yeah... Yancy! What's he doing these days?" The entry was as good as ever; I'll have to make a point of revisiting when I'm casting about for interesting reading in future. Glad to see you are well!

Good luck on your trip! The waves weren't bad at all on the way over, but they were pretty rough on the way back. Still, I researched boat accidents on these tours, and they always happen down around Antarctica (grounding or hitting icebergs) and never while going through the Drake. The worst you'll experience is some intense sea-sickness or an untimely fall in your cabin. I just lay in bed reading through it all.

Machu Picchu and Antarctica are the two places I've dreamed of going to for reasons I couldn't entirely comprehend since grade school. I watched a documentary of its (re)discovery in the past century and found it compelling as hell. It's clearly overrun with tourists these days, but still managed to live up to the hype.

Great story! I really want to take this trip too and am already researching the tour provider etc, but I'm really scared of these waves of the Drake passage, however I think curiosity to see what is it, Antarctica, will prevail! You must be very happy you made it to this part of the world!

I am planing to go by boat from Ecuador to Iquitos.

Do I need any permissions or licences granted by the ecuadorian government?

Thanks in advance!
