Hey Julia!

I know you can get shelf stable milk in the US too -- it's just strange to me how much more prevalent it is down here. The only refrigerated milk they have is in bags, which are extremely frustrating to store once opened. I've since learned that South Americans just dump these bags out immediately into pitchers and go through them quick enough that the milk doesn't take on any of the unnecessary flavors that refrigerators tend to give things, but still... i like cartons.

A vegetarian would not fare well, though I meet them all the time. Most often they cook their own meals in hostels, though there are always options in big cities and in cities that get enough tourists that the veggie demand is high enough. I'm currently in Buenos aires and always feel bad for the vegetarians -- just too much good, cheap meat here :)

PS: can you shoot me an email if you received note of my responding to your comment via email? I just changed how comments work here this weekend and wanna know if it worked alright :)

I don't get it. How do they not refridgerate milk? Does it taste sour? Is it powdered, just add water?
